  • Course description: AEC Daily: Mastering Sustainable Concrete: On the Road to Net-Zero Construction

Concrete is a key construction material in modern society. As the foundation for much of what we make, it has a substantial environmental impact, mainly reflected in its carbon footprint. This course introduces best practices to make concrete more sustainable and lower the embodied carbon in concrete with its use and application.

Recognize best practices and well-established strategies for reducing concrete’s carbon footprint with the concrete used in a project, improving its sustainability profile.

Determine how to best decarbonize concrete to achieve sustainable, net-zero construction.

Assess how portland limestone cement (PLC) and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) provide a lower carbon footprint option.

Explore carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology and how it is increasingly being used by the industry to address emissions associated with cement production, improving overall sustainability.
