  • Course description: AEC Daily: Architectural Applications of Exterior Mouldings and Trim Featuring Cellular PVC

    Mouldings and trim occupy a small amount of space on a home’s exterior; however, their aesthetic value outweighs their size. Cellular PVC mouldings and trim are durable; stain, rot, and insect resistant; maintenance-free; and recyclable. For properly arranged exterior mouldings and trim, architects and designers need a thorough understanding of the materials and the design rules and functions for each location. This course takes the reader through the layout and installation of exterior mouldings, particularly cellular PVC, and looks at some common mistakes and solutions.

    Describe how cellular PVC is made and used for exterior architecture and the virtually maintenance-free upkeep required for long-life applications.

    Discuss the advantages of using cellular PVC as moulding and trim on a home, including its durability and resistance to stains, rot, and insects.

    Examine how to use preset systems of various profiles of mouldings and trim to create or greatly enhance the language of architectural styles.

    Discuss how to install, maintain, and paint cellular PVC mouldings and trim.

    List some common design mistakes in the use of architectural mouldings and trim and explain how to avoid them.
