  • Course description: AEC Daily: Firestopping Products: Regulations and Installation

Firestopping is more than installing sealant in an opening. It is a critical component of a building’s overall life-safety system. This course discusses how a properly installed firestop system not only protects property but, more importantly, also saves lives by inhibiting the spread of fire from compartment to compartment and buying valuable time for occupants to exit the structure in the event of a catastrophic fire.

Discuss relevant terminology, testing standards, and key industry practices associated with firestopping aimed at protecting the lives of building occupants.

Identify different types of firestopping products as well as the typical applications that are compliant with regulatory standards to ensure occupant safety.

Explain how to properly install different firestopping materials to ensure the safety of building occupants as well as how correctly installed firestopping materials maintain the fire resistance rating of a compartment.

Demonstrate an understanding of engineering judgments (EJs) and their purpose and list the criteria for proper EJs as recommended by the International Firestop Council.
