  • Course description: AEC Daily: Roof Glazing Products: Design and Performance Considerations

Roof glazing products can positively affect building occupants by illuminating the interior of a space, providing views to the outside, and allowing for natural ventilation. There are many factors to be considered during the product selection process to ensure performance goals are realized. Presented in this course are roof window and skylight design and performance criteria, relevant building codes and standards, and types of roof windows and skylights and their features.

List the ways in which effective daylighting design positively influences occupant comfort, performance, and psychological well-being.

Summarize how energy-efficient windows increase light and views while reducing condensation and providing energy and cost savings and a comfortable environment for building occupants.

Specify the appropriate energy-efficient roof glazing products by using the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) label, 2018 IECC, ASHRAE 90.1 and 189.1, IgCC, LEED® v4, and other relevant standards and performance programs.

Describe common types of roof windows and skylights and their associated features, as well as product selection and placement considerations that have a direct impact on overall performance.
