  • Course description: AEC Daily: High-Performance Doors: Increasing Safety, Energy Savings, & Productivity for Food, Beverage, & Cold Storage Facilities

In food and beverage, food processing/distribution, and cold storage facilities, it is important to use doors that can provide speed, safety, separation, and security. High-speed, high-cycle, roll-up doors provide all these elements better than conventional doors. This course provides an in-depth discussion of the different types of high-performance doors—fabric, rigid, and rubber—along with their benefits and functions in different applications. The specification criteria, design, and installation considerations for high-performance doors are also discussed.

Define and contrast high-performance doors to conventional doors typically used in food, beverage, and cold storage facilities in terms of durability, security, safety (for people, vehicles, and equipment), and energy efficiency.

Explain the fundamental features, benefits, applications, and functions of high-performance doors, including separating environments, controlling temperatures, maintaining food sanitation standards, lowering maintenance costs, and improving traffic efficiency, building security, and productivity.

Identify factors and criteria that influence the specification, detailing, installation, and safe operation of high-performance doors to avoid injuries to people and damage to equipment.

Describe the types, materials, and technology available to determine the appropriate type of high-speed door to specify for different environments of food, beverage, and cold storage facilities.
