  • Course description: AEC Daily: Bicycle Parking and Storage Inside and Out

    Lack of secure bicycle parking and storage is one of the top barriers to increased bicycle ridership. However, there is much more to selecting functional and appropriate bike storage than installing a few racks at the building sidewalk. This course examines best practices for bicycle racks and shelters for indoor and outdoor bicycle parking and storage, including typical municipal guidelines and regulations, incentives, guidance on shelters, and rack planning and design.

    Plan the most appropriate bicycle parking solutions to meet cyclist needs.

    Design and lay out efficient and functional bike rooms and storage areas.

    Integrate bicycle storage and shelter solutions into municipal biking infrastructure and building design.

    Optimize LEED®, WELL Building Standard®, and Parksmart cycle-related points for buildings or renovations.

    Select the most durable, crime- and weather-resistant, and cost-effective bicycle parking shelters.

    Develop a solid business case for high-quality bicycle parking shelters and storage.
