  • Course description: AEC Daily: Pest Bird Deterrent Solutions

Birds, bird droppings, and nesting materials can detract from buildings’ architectural features; more importantly, they can negatively impact the environment by creating health and safety risks. Eliminating a bird problem requires a strategic combination of preventive measures and proven bird control products. This course explores the characteristics of common birds, bird problem assessment, and the solutions designed to deter the roosting and nesting of pest birds.

Explain the need for bird control for commercial, residential, and agricultural markets in terms of minimizing property damage and reducing health and safety risks.

Discuss the types and characteristics of common pest birds, bats, and secondary infestations (bird mites, bat bugs, and swallow bugs).

State the factors related to bird problem assessment in order to determine suitable bird deterrent methods.

List the various pest bird deterrent systems (ledge products, exclusion products, and sensory products) that are available to maintain a healthy property environment.
