  • Course description: AEC Daily: Mineral Wool as a Continuous Insulation Solution

    Insulation can help increase overall energy efficiency, minimize the spread of fire, manage risks associated with moisture and mold, and improve occupant comfort. Choosing the right insulation and putting it in the right location is becoming one of the most important decisions in design, construction, and retrofit. Reviewed in this course are the features, benefits, and design and installation considerations related to mineral wool continuous insulation.

    Identify the advantages and implications of using continuous insulation (ci) in energy-efficient exterior wall design and construction, including minimizing the spread of fire and managing the risks associated with moisture and mold.

    Discuss key building and energy code requirements related to the use of ci to ensure energy efficiency and thermal comfort.

    List the raw materials used to produce fire-resistive mineral wool ci and describe its manufacturing process.

    State the many benefits of mineral wool ci in sustainable exterior wall assemblies, including maximizing sound control and energy savings.
