  • Course description: AEC Daily: The Who, What, When, and Why of Submetering

    ONLINE - ONGOING - FREE

Building designers, property managers, and tenants increasingly focus on lowering their energy and utility consumption and its accompanying costs. To effectively reduce usage and costs, monitoring energy consumption in detail is necessary, especially in buildings and facilities with multiple tenants, end users, and processes. This course explains how utility submetering identifies usage quantities and issues, facilitates smart metering, helps meet or exceed code and building rating system requirements, and accurately allocates utility charges, all of which contribute to users’ lowering their utility consumption and costs.

    • Recall the essential submetering system components and their functions in monitoring effective energy use.
    • Analyze verified utility performance data from submeter systems to inform future green building design and energy conservation practices.
    • Install the most appropriate submetering systems for a comprehensive range of uses and facilities to inform and bill users for the exact amount of utilities they are consuming.
    • Promote measurement and verification (M&V) data to increase the credibility and benefits of energy management and conservation by tenants and residents.
