  • Course description: AEC Daily: Commercial Rolling Service Doors: Options and Applications

Commercial rolling service doors offer high-performance solutions for demanding areas. Used both internally and externally, these doors provide excellent thermal insulation, strength, and durability in challenging environments. Rolling service doors are equipped with safety features such as drop stop or sensing edge systems that stop the door when it meets an obstacle and windlocks to ensure the door is operational during high-wind events. This course examines the characteristics of rolling service doors, fire doors, grilles, and shutters. Door operation, parts, fire code requirements, and wind load information are also discussed.

Identify the standard elements and options that make up a rolling door and specify those elements that would apply to

a specific project such as airflow, security, energy efficiency, wind load, and fire rating.

Explain how wind affects the installation and operation of rolling service doors and how to ensure the door will withstand the wind load requirements of the project location to ensure occupant safety.

Identify the two types of automatic closing devices and describe how they protect people and objects.

Describe the uses, types, and options for rolling grilles and shutters.
