  • Course description: AEC Daily: Selecting Hybrid Vinyl Flooring for Performance, Value, and Sustainability

This course provides an overview of how hybrid vinyl flooring contributes to long-term value through reduced maintenance needs, verified indoor air quality performance, and responsible material sourcing. It examines manufacturing processes such as vertical integration, layer fusion, and closed-loop production that influence consistency, durability, and environmental impact. These attributes can support credit achievement in green building programs such as the LEED® v5 Building Design and Construction and Interior Design and Construction rating systems and the WELL Building Standard™ version 2 by addressing low-emitting materials, recycled content, and product transparency.

Assess the characteristics of hybrid vinyl flooring that affect durability, contribute to indoor air quality, and align with LEED v5 and WELL v2 criteria.

Analyze how hybrid vinyl flooring advances sustainability goals by limiting material use and reducing maintenance demands in accordance with LEED v5 and WELL v2 requirements.

Evaluate how manufacturing processes such as annealing and closed-loop systems reduce life-cycle environmental impact and support resource efficiency.

Examine how third-party certifications and declarations (EPDs, HPDs, FloorScore, GREENGUARD Gold) support LEED v5 and WELL v2 objectives for material transparency and VOC compliance.
