  • Course description: AEC Daily: Specification Considerations for Advanced Bird-Friendly Glass

Birds are an important part of ecosystems, performing many essential ecological functions. Unfortunately, millions of birds are killed every year due to collisions. This course discusses how architects can include bird-safe glass design strategies in their projects to significantly reduce the number of bird collisions and positively impact the environment and biodiversity. It also examines how bird-safe glass may help projects satisfy credit requirements in the LEED® v5 Building Design and Construction rating system.

Explain the threat that architectural glazing poses to birds and describe how birds are beneficial to our well-being as they perform essential ecological functions.

Discuss how bird-friendly glass mitigates collisions and creates more sustainable buildings.

Explore the characteristics of and options for advanced bird-friendly glass that help prevent collisions.

Identify specification considerations for advanced bird-friendly glass, including materials and design details that may contribute toward satisfying the LEED v5 Sustainable Sites Biodiverse Habitat credit.
