  • Course description: AEC Daily: Sustainable, Strong, & Safe: A Guide to Aluminum Industrial-Strength Ladders

Industrial-strength ladders must provide functional safety for users in varied and demanding building environments. Aluminum ladders are up to the challenge of virtually any application thanks to aluminum’s high strength-to-weight ratio, durability, and corrosion resistance. This course reviews ladder types and safety considerations and discusses how the sustainability benefits of aluminum along with its other attributes make it an ideal material for heavy-duty ladders.

Explain how aluminum is sourced and processed and ways the aluminum industry is minimizing the environmental impacts of producing extruded aluminum.

Discuss the life-cycle impacts of aluminum and how its long lifespan and infinite recyclability help to offset the production impacts.

Describe how aluminum’s high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance minimize natural resource and chemical use and benefit users of a range of aluminum ladder types.

Summarize the ANSI and OSHA safety standards for ladders used in building construction and operations.
