  • Course description: AEC Daily: Hygienic Hydration: Past, Present, and Future

    Contemporary drinking fountains, water coolers, and water bottle refilling stations provide communities with access to safe, clean drinking water. This course recounts the history of the drinking fountain and addresses regulations surrounding drinking water distribution and treatment. It introduces touchless activation, compares the use of bottled water to bottle refillers, and provides guidelines for specifying commercial water delivery systems.

    Summarize the evolution of drinking fountains and the changes in public attitude toward them that have occurred over the years.

    Explain the U.S. water distribution system and treatment processes and identify the regulations that govern them.

    Outline the standards applicable to drinking fountains and coolers and state how they ensure safe drinking water is accessible to all.

    Discuss the environmental impacts of plastic water bottles and present bottle refillers as a sustainable alternative.

    Specify water delivery solutions that satisfy the need for public safety and are appropriate for the intended environment and project needs.
