  • Course description: AEC Daily: Design Possibilities of High-Strength Fiber Cement

    Since its introduction in the early 20th century, high-strength fiber cement has proven to be an affordable, sturdy construction material. Technological advances in recent years have increased its versatility in terms of color range and usage for ventilated rainscreen facades. This course examines what high-strength fiber cement is and how it can improve the structural sustainability of buildings and enhance creative freedom in design.

    Describe the history of high-strength fiber cement and the use of high-strength fiber cement materials in architectural facades.

    Describe how colored high-strength fiber cement cladding materials are manufactured and their most important performance characteristics.

    Use colored high-strength fiber cement facade materials creatively in ventilated rainscreen applications.

    Identify appropriate applications and fastening techniques.
