Course Description: CEU Events: Column Couture: Designing Column Covers
Column covers play a vital role in the aesthetics and functionality of architectural spaces, offering opportunities to enhance design while concealing structural elements. This course explores sectional configurations, shapes, joint types, and architectural components that create cohesive systems. Participants will learn about material options, finishes, and customization possibilities, as well as strategies for lighting integration, including backlighting methods and spacing guidelines to achieve both performance and design intent.
Define the differences between structural columns and column covers and review the basic components.
Evaluate the characteristics of different substrates and finishes, including customization options, to ensure the selected materials meet both aesthetic and durability needs.
Analyze technical design considerations, such as joint types and attachment systems, and their impact on installation, maintenance, and overall project coordination.
Examine how column covers contribute to project sustainability goals, including achieving LEED certification.
