Course Description: CEU Events: Silence Above The Acoustic and Structural Evolution of LWIC Roof Systems
This presentation will explain performance intent of LWIC and the effects it has on Acoustic performance in a roof assembly. The specifications are broken down into the roof component and studies on the performance will be presented. New and Experienced designers need updated and refreshed information about performance and code changes in basic roofing design as it pertains to acoustics.
Recognize the roof as an acoustic element within the building envelope and describe how it influences overall sound transmission and occupant comfort.
Explain how Lightweight Insulating Concrete (LWIC) achieves its acoustic performance through mass and its monolithic properties.
Compare sound transmission performance (STC/OITC) of LWIC roof systems with different structural deck types to guide system selection.
Identify roof design strategies - including attachment methods, membrane types and hybrid configurations - that optimize both acoustic comfort and sustainable performance.
