Course Description: CEU Events: Neuroinclusive Design: Foundations for the Built Environment
This course explores how to design spaces that are functional, beautiful, and supportive of diverse human needs, including those of neurodivergent occupants. Participants will examine environmental stressors that affect cognitive, sensory, and social experiences, apply neuroinclusive design principles, and evaluate strategies for lighting, acoustics, spatial layout, and restorative areas that reduce stress and promote engagement, focus, and overall well-being.
Define neurodiversity and identify common environmental stressors that affect cognitive, sensory, and social well-being in the built environment.
Apply key principles of neuroinclusive design to improve health, safety, and welfare outcomes for diverse building occupants.
Evaluate real-world design strategies and case examples across sectors such as workplace, healthcare, and education.
Analyze environmental stressors — sensory, cognitive, and social — and propose design interventions that create a more supportive and engaging human experience.
