    Ventilation is a vitally important factor in the design, construction, and performance of residential kitchens. Without adequate ventilation and an ample supply of clean makeup air, occupant health and safety are at risk.

    This course will discuss the different types of ventilation systems available, important specification considerations to optimize performance, and how to incorporate ventilation without sacrificing design and style.


    1. Discuss the critical connection between kitchen ventilation systems and indoor air quality.
    2. Examine how to properly size and position a ventilation system to optimize indoor air quality.
    3. Describe important specification considerations for ventilation systems, including blowers, ducts, and makeup air.
    4. Explore types of ventilation systems available, such as wall-mount, island, or downdraft, and understand how to specify ventilation systems to maximize occupant comfort and health.
