Course Description: CEU Events: Sustainable Design for a Better Tomorrow: Healthy Products, Circularity, and Digital Innovation
Sustainability design is an evolving process affecting People, Places and the Planet.
We recognize a significant impact on health and wellness of occupants in a new building or a renovation comes from specified products.
Designers of interiors may be responsible for carbon emissions at least equal to those associated with the structure and envelope of a building.
Our intent is to offer guidance to specifiers who are focused on choosing sustainable materials, with strategies to reduce embodied carbon and construction waste on projects.
Beyond carbon, elements to consider when addressing sustainability include evaluation of the design process, material composition considerations, green building standards and how materials can contribute, and the optimization of layouts and components though digitalization and automation.
Learning Objective 1 Review and assess the impact of materials on indoor environments and their potential contributions to meeting LEED prerequisites and earning credits.
Learning Objective 2 Develop an understanding of circular design concepts applied in the built environment to minimize disposal of construction and demolition waste, encourage material recovery, reuse, and recycling, and explore the potential for earning LEED credits.
Learning Objective 3 Gain an overview of sustainability benchmarks for evaluating project materials, and discover specialized industry channels for accessing and defining transparent material attributes as set forth by LEED and WELL.
Learning Objective 4 Explore digitalization's role in improving project processes, emphasizing sustainability and resource optimization, including LEED v4.1 guidelines, eco-friendly material usage, and environmentally conscious design and construction techniques.
