Course description: CEU Events: Furnishing the Future of the Workplace
Built for stability, efficiency, and linearity, it assumed work happened in fixed places, on fixed schedules, where presence was the only visible measure of productivity. Today, those conditions no longer exist. Work is fluid, constantly evolving, and increasingly shaped by forces like AI that are redefining how work gets done. In this CEU, we step back to examine what is changing at the human level, supported by 200+ signals across culture, technology, environment, economy, and design that reveal five emerging shifts shaping the future of workplace design. Together, we will explore how design must move beyond static environments to create responsive experiences that support people, adapt in real time, and enable better work.
Examine the systemic forces reshaping workplace design, including flexibility, fragmented work patterns, and human-AI collaboration.
Interpret emerging signals and behavioral shifts to inform design decisions that elevate human experience and performance.
Translate foresight into spatial strategy, applying trend insights to workplace environments that must adapt over time to equitably accommodate occupants' work patterns.
Apply insights from current conditions and emerging future scenarios to anticipate design opportunities, mitigate risks, and guide project development.
