Course description: CEU Events: RISE Summit
This seven-hour series presents Designing Walls for Control, Overburdened and Underutilized, The Basics of SBS-Modified Bitumen, PVC Membranes and System Design, PMMA Technology, PMMA Used for Waterproofing, and Reusable Insulation Systems for Roofing and Waterproofing Applications, exploring the materials, system design, and specification strategies behind high-performance roofing, waterproofing, and wall enclosure systems. Through technical instruction and case-based examples, participants gain a deeper understanding of how proper material selection, substrate preparation, and integrated system design support long-term performance and occupant safety.
Discuss the design and specification requirements for managing moisture, air, vapor, and thermal continuity in commercial wall systems.
Recognize how changing building and energy codes interact across enclosure interfaces and apply air barrier system examples to current and future project designs.
Identify common stressors affecting membrane systems and analyze how various overburden system types integrate with the membranes beneath them.
Evaluate membrane technologies for buried applications and differentiate between installation configurations to support effective coordination between overburden and membrane systems.
Explain the composition of SBS-modified bitumen membranes, including reinforcements, saturants, surfacings, and inter-ply options, and understand how blend technology and the two-ply system design concept affect long-term roof performance.
Discuss the composition and ASTM specifications of PVC and PVC KEE membranes, including the role of plasticizers, to understand the selection criteria relevant to specific project requirements.
Compare key properties of common liquid-applied systems and review parking deck options and system design, including hybrid applications, to make informed design decisions based on project requirements.
Recognize proper substrate evaluation and preparation in order to maximize PMMA adhesion for various pedestrian and vehicular traffic applications.
Differentiate between waterproofing and concrete protection to determine where PMMA waterproofing systems should be installed for successful long-term performance.
Identify the benefits and limitations of aggregate and cellular lightweight insulating concrete systems and learn what an asphaltic pellet attachment system is and how it is applied in conjunction with LWIC.
