Course description: CEU Events: Vanguards in Color
Breaking away from “color rules” and the confidence to use color in new or unexpected ways may be an uncomfortable proposition for some, while for others vivacious color is the ideal means to express personality and delight. Using color to create charismatic interiors and exteriors has become a defining characteristic of several notable architects and designers. The impact of taking a bold approach with saturated color is explored through architecture and interior design examples. In addition, key factors to consider when selecting color such as light reflectance value and the importance of quality paint attributes are reviewed. This course also provides directional insights on trending colors as expressed through the Color Trends 2023 palette.
Learning Objective 1 Recognize the importance of color selection in interior design as illustrated through the work of influential interior designers.
Learning Objective 2 Using various structures as examples, understand the role that color plays in architecture and how selected architects used color in creative and unexpected ways.
Learning Objective 3 Connect the color selection process to the importance of specifying products with key performance attributes.
Learning Objective 4 Explain how light reflectance value (LRV) is critical to understand how a given color will react to the lighting in a space.
Learning Objective 5 Describe the concepts and points of inspiration that influenced the development of the Color Trends 2023 palette.
