Course Description: Marvin Canada: TruStile Factory Tour for Architects and Designers

This course will be oriented around informative and educational tours of the TruStile Doors manufacturing plant in Denver, CO. It provides a comprehensive review of the stile and rail door construction method, its important role in door design and how to build green with doors. Course topics also include a review of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), its characteristics and its use in stile and rail door applications. It also explores using natural wood in stile and rail doors and the different construction options for stain-grade wood doors. Lean manufacturing and its important role in flexible door manufacturing is also covered in detail.
• Communicate a detailed technical understanding of the stile and rail door construction method
• Understand lean manufacturing processes and green initiatives
• Understand the important characteristics of medium density fiberboard (MDF) and its application within the stile and rail door manufacturing process
• Understand different construction options for stain-grade wood stile and rail doors
