  • Course Description: AEC Daily: Sustainability Impacts of High-Performance Insulated Metal Wall & Roof Systems

Insulated metal wall and roof panels allow quick and efficient construction, versatility, durability, and energy efficiency. This course looks at how the IMP manufacturing process results in a panel offering many benefits that align with the goals of the LEED® v4.1 Building Design and Construction (BD+C): New Construction and Core and Shell and the WELL Building Standard™ version 2 green building certification systems.

Describe how the components and manufacturing of IMPs can contribute toward meeting WELL v2 and LEED v4.1 BD+C requirements for material safety and LEED’s embodied carbon and life-cycle impact reduction goals.

Discuss the role of IMPs in enhancing building energy performance and how they are suited for WELL v2 and LEED v4.1 BD+C projects incorporating daylight access to reduce electric lighting use and benefit occupants.

Explain how IMPs promote indoor environmental quality in terms of airtightness, moisture management, and no VOC emissions, thus meeting the standards for WELL v2 and LEED v4.1 BD+C projects.

Identify how IMP roof panels and roof decks can incorporate solar panels and contribute toward meeting WELL v2 and LEED v4.1 BD+C requirements for capturing and reusing rainwater.
