AEC Daily Corporation

AEC Daily is one of the largest providers of continuing education (CE) to the Construction, Architectural, Interior Design and Engineering communities. Complimentary courses are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, with automated credit reporting to numerous organizations across the United States and Canada.   • Course Description: AEC Daily: Community Functional Resilience

    ONGOING - FREE - 1 HOUR

    With the global rise in natural disasters and the increasing need for sustainable environments, resiliency has become a necessity in the design and building industries. This course provides an overview of resilient design, how it relates to building codes and standards, and the role it plays in ensuring the safety and sustainability of the built environment. It examines the role masonry construction plays in meeting resilient design goals and the inherent properties of masonry that make it resilient and provides examples and case studies of resilient design strategies.

    • Define resilience, its related concepts, its advantages, and its role in protecting people and properties.
    • Describe how resilient design goes beyond the minimum building code requirements and contributes to a sustainable built environment.
    • Discuss above-code standards and rating systems such as LEED® that can be used in resilient design.
    • Indicate inherent properties of masonry that provide resilience and improve safety.
