  • Course Description: AEC Daily: Turnstiles for Enhanced Access Control & Management

Turnstiles to control employee and visitor access help to enhance safety and security in a wide variety of applications, from corporate offices to healthcare facilities to distribution warehouses. This course presents the benefits and performance features of optical, full-height, and waist-high turnstiles and reviews the many aesthetic and customization options available to install a turnstile system that meets the needs of any facility.

Contrast turnstiles to doors in terms of improved security for employees and visitors, more effective integration with the facility’s access control system, and increased operational flexibility.

Differentiate the performance features of waist-high, full-height, and barrier or barrier-free optical turnstiles to determine which will meet requirements for ADA accessibility, aesthetics, security, and the type of facility.

Examine the considerations for specifying the ideal number of turnstiles and type of credential reader, facilitating integration with emergency management systems, and providing contactless entry and capacity control for hygiene and social distancing requirements.

Describe additional options for optical turnstiles including aesthetics, barrier height and width, security of gaps, and floor-saver installations.
