Course Description: AEC Daily: Polyiso CI for Code-Compliant Walls in Type V and Residential Construction
Continuous insulation is part of building standards and state and energy codes due to its ability to reduce thermal
bridging and the associated heat loss and energy consumption. This course looks at the use of polyisocyanurate as a continuous insulation in Type V and residential construction and its use as a multifunctional envelope component—air barrier, weather-resistive barrier, and vapor retarder—by reviewing code requirements for the building envelope.
Define continuous insulation (ci), the role of ci, and types and properties of ci designed to improve the thermal
performance of a building envelope.
Identify the applications of polyiso ci, including its use as exterior insulation, water-resistive barrier (WRB), air barrier (AB), and a multifunctional or composite performance sheathing.
Recall energy code compliance, including prescriptive, U-value, and performance paths.
Recall building code compliance, including fire, wind pressure, and building science (WRB, AB, vapor retarder) considerations.
