Course Description: AEC Daily: Noise Control Construction: Beyond STC and IIC
DISTANCE LEARNING
When designing noise control measures for a building, it is critical to look beyond the sound transmission class (STC) and impact insulation class (IIC) ratings in order to create an ideal environment that promotes occupant well-being, protects their hearing, and fulfills the project’s needs. This course provides an overview of noise control principles, construction composites, and design methodologies that reduce noise, with an emphasis on performance-oriented designs requiring third-party acoustical consultants.
Identify basic sound principles, including frequency, wavelength, and related terminology, and the preferred parameters relating to user safety and protection from noise.
Discuss noise control construction approaches and explain how different composites perform under a variety of noise conditions in order to achieve healthy acoustical settings for occupants.
Analyze and interpret noise control tests and advertising claims.
Determine the difference between testing results and actual performance and hearing safety.
Indicate specific project types requiring third-party acoustical consultants and their role in creating healthy spaces.
