  • Course Description: AEC Daily: Ventilated Façades: Designed for Sustainability, Beauty, and Performance

    ONGOING - FREE - 1 HOUR

Beyond aesthetics, ventilated façades and cladding systems provide added wind load absorption, moisture protection, and insulation properties, resulting in prolonged building durability and sustainability. This course examines how these systems benefit occupant well-being by mitigating exterior noise transmission, offer significant building operating energy savings from decreased HVAC demands, and increase occupant comfort by regulating interior temperatures. Mechanical and chemical adhesive attachment is also examined, focusing on the adhesive’s ability to absorb wind-induced vibration as well as expansion and contraction from temperature and humidity changes. Several case studies are also discussed.

    INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION

    Learning Objective

Explain how ventilated façades can reduce water damage from condensation and infiltration, increasing building durability.

Identify how ventilated façades can mitigate thermal transfer, resulting in increased energy savings and occupant health and comfort.

Discuss how ventilated façades can provide acoustic insulation and increase occupant well-being.

Identify the attachment methods for ventilated façades and explain how a chemical adhesive system is designed to withstand panel weight, wind load, seismic load, and thermal movement to achieve optimal performance.

Discuss various installation mistakes and how to avoid them, thus prolonging the life of the building.
