Course Description: AEC Daily: Equipment Attachment Solutions for Standing Seam Metal Roofs
ONGOING - FREE - 1 HOUR
Not only is standing seam metal roofing (SSMR) robust and durable, but the seam itself also provides a convenient anchorage point for the mounting of rooftop equipment. This course reviews the features and advantages of SSMR in terms of durability and sustainability, and the appropriate attachment solutions for mounting equipment. The course focuses on nonpenetrating roof seam clamps and design considerations for their use with snow retention and solar panel systems.
ONGOING - FREE - 1 HOUR
Learning Objectives:
Explain attachment design considerations for snow retention and solar panel systems as they relate to gravity loads and wind uplift forces.
Specify the appropriate seam clamp design for new and coated SSMRs in order to prevent damage such as galling, corrosion, fatigue, and fracture points, and the voiding of roof warranties.
List the factors that affect the uplift resistance of an SSMR system and provide examples of measures that can be taken to enhance wind uplift performance.
Recall the key aspects of SSMR that contribute to its durability and longevity, and lead to a reduction in energy use.
