Underground enclosures provide safety for pedestrians and vehicles and easy access for maintenance and repair. This course presents an overview of underground enclosures for nondeliberate traffic areas, including selection considerations, load ratings, placement, and installation, with a discussion of the ANSI/SCTE 77 performance standard.

Learning Objectives
List the considerations when selecting an underground enclosure, particularly in terms of the importance to safety in deliberate versus nondeliberate traffic area applications.
Describe the safe placement of underground enclosures related to the various load rating tiers and application types.
Discuss the ANSI/SCTE 77 standard and required tests for underground enclosures.
Explain proper enclosure specification and summarize the steps in a safe enclosure installation.
