  • Course Description: AEC Daily: Improving Dryer Vent Safety, Installation, and Routine Maintenance

Clothes dryer fire safety is a serious and often overlooked problem. This course examines how a properly designed duct system with a minimum path vent and self-aligning magnets can simplify dryer installation, ease routine cleaning, boost dryer efficiency, and decrease fire hazards.

    Learning Objectives:

Identify the causes of clothes dryer fires and discuss how improper dryer installation and venting contribute to the risk of a structure fire, damage to personal property, or even loss of life.

Compare the operation of different types of clothes dryers.

Discuss dryer and venting safety standards and the actions the design professional and homeowner can take to reduce the risk of a dryer fire.

Identify other hazards, including impact on indoor air quality and dryer efficiency, of improperly vented dryers.

Describe how magnetic vent couplings work and discuss how they increase the safety of a dryer and its vent system by maintaining maximum airflow and mitigating the risk of fire.
