Course Description: AEC Daily: Paint 201:Practical Solutions and Problem-Solving Techniques
ONGOING - 1 HR - FREE
Different types of paints are typically classified according to the type of resin they contain or the mechanism by which they dry and cure. This course discusses the classification of paints, advantages and disadvantages of latex versus alkyd coatings, the benefits of a three-coat system, surface preparation and priming techniques, and causes of and solutions for common paint problems.
ONGOING - 1 HR - FREE
Learning Objectives
Discuss the properties and curing mechanisms of latex and alkyd coatings, how environmental factors affect the drying and curing processes, and the role proper drying and curing plays in long-term performance and durability of the coating and substrate.
Describe the rationale behind the three-coat layering system and its components to maximize protection and extend substrate longevity in architectural and industrial applications.
Explain the preparation and priming techniques required for various substrates in order to prevent premature coating failure.
Determine paint color and finish based on a project’s durability, washability, stain resistance, and aesthetic requirements.
Identify causes of common paint failures such as flaking, chalking, and mildew growth and implement solutions to correct current problems and prevent future issues.
