Course Description: AEC Daily: Building Smarter: The Role of Insulated Concrete Panel Systems
This course explores the design, construction, and performance of insulated concrete panel (ICP) systems as a high-performance wall assembly. Through an overview of wall details and assemblies, participants examine how ICP systems address structural, thermal, moisture, fire, and acoustic performance while meeting applicable code requirements and improving constructability and energy efficiency. Case studies illustrate how these principles are applied in practice to support durable, sustainable building design.
Describe the components and structural configuration of ICP systems, including concrete posts and studs, EPS stay-in-place formwork, and reinforcing members that contribute to durable, resilient, and code-compliant wall assemblies.
Evaluate ICP wall assemblies for their ability to manage moisture, improve acoustic performance, and provide fire resistance to enhance occupant safety and comfort and long-term building durability.
Explain the role of code reports issued by accredited agencies in verifying tested assemblies and demonstrating compliance with applicable building codes and standards.
Assess how ICP systems improve thermal performance and contribute to home energy efficiency, as evaluated through the HERS® Index and ENERGY STAR® certification requirements.
