Course Description: AEC Daily: Custom, Modified, and Modular: A Guide to Site Furniture Manufacturing
Site furnishings contribute to the functionality, accessibility, safety, comfort, and user experience of outdoor spaces. This course examines modular, modified, and custom site furnishings, helping participants differentiate between categories and determine when each is appropriate. Through real-world examples, participants will explore how design and manufacturing decisions, including material selection and fabrication, can improve design outcomes and enhance performance, supporting the safety and comfort of site users.
Differentiate categories of site furnishings and evaluate their benefits, limitations, and potential impacts on design outcomes, user experience, and comfort.
Identify design conditions where nonstandard site furnishings may provide advantages and evaluate key variables when selecting and specifying site furnishing products.
Discuss manufacturing processes and evaluate how design and product selection decisions affect cost, schedule, durability, and user comfort.
Evaluate real-world examples to identify how alignment among design objectives, product selection, and user experience can contribute to successful project outcomes.
