  • Course Description: AEC Daily: Timeless Craft, Modern Performance: Custom Fenestration for Inspired Architecture

Luxury‑grade custom fenestration systems combine architectural expression with exceptional building performance. Participants will learn how high‑quality craftsmanship, proprietary elements, and precision‑engineered components—including concealed drainage assemblies—lead to extraordinary durability and functionality. Also addressed are performance testing, accessibility, and sustainability, including how custom systems can contribute toward credit achievement in the LEED® v5 Building Design and Construction rating system. Emphasis is placed on large‑scale systems that push size limits, allowing expansive openings and uninterrupted vistas while meeting demanding project requirements.

Identify the design opportunities created by custom fenestration systems and examine how precision craftsmanship, rigorous quality control, premium materials, and direct collaboration with the manufacturer contribute to realizing design intent while delivering a cohesive, high-performing building envelope.

Discuss how bespoke components and proprietary elements—both visible and concealed—enhance aesthetic quality, system performance, and occupant safety and comfort.

Evaluate test reports and certifications to inform the specification of window and door assemblies to meet code and project requirements for durability, weather resistance, and energy performance, aligning with the intent of LEED v5.

Recall case studies that demonstrate how custom fenestration solutions push size limits, address complex design challenges, meet project-specific requirements for fire resiliency and energy efficiency, and elevate overall project quality.
