Course Description: AEC Daily: Daylight Management and Automated Shading for Smarter, Safer, and Healthier Buildings
In the post-COVID work environment, businesses and designers are attempting to leverage daylight to the benefit of employees, students, patients, and caregivers alike. Automated shading enhances all manner of built environments by controlling and managing natural light to benefit mental health, productivity, and the bottom line. This course explores how using Power over Ethernet (PoE) based automated shading solutions supports smart buildings and enhances the well-being of occupants, regardless of building type or use. Also addressed is how automated shading can contribute toward the credit requirements of the LEED® v5 Building Design and Construction and Interior Design and Construction rating systems and the WELL Building Standard™ v2.
Describe how automated daylight management enhances occupant well-being and meets LEED v5 and WELL v2 goals through daylight exposure and access to quality views.
Utilize shade automation to enhance the occupant experience by supporting visual comfort and preventing glare as required by LEED v5 and WELL v2 credits.
Identify the components and capabilities of solar tracking technologies that enhance building energy efficiency and contribute toward LEED v5 credit achievement.
Explain how Power over Ethernet (PoE), a meaningful emerging platform for building operational technologies, can be employed to meet sustainable objectives and enhance the performance of people and workplaces.
