Course Description: AEC Daily: Security and Access Control: Integrating Mechanical and Electronic Hardware
The purpose of this program is to equip the commercial architectural community with the knowledge to design and specify access-control solutions that meet security requirements, comply with building codes, and align with client expectations. The course emphasizes practical integration strategies and future-ready technologies to ensure safe, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing environments.
Explain the convergence of mechanical and electronic hardware to provide access control and protect building exits in emergencies such as power outages.
Balance security, aesthetics, and code compliance in commercial projects to simultaneously satisfy owner requirements and safety regulations.
Identify exiting, fire protection, and accessibility requirements from the NFPA, IBC, and ADA that apply to access hardware selection and integration.
Assess emerging technology trends and their impact on access-control design and data privacy regulations.
Apply best practices for coordinating mechanical and electronic systems with electrical and IT teams.
