Course Description: AEC Daily: A Guide to Glass Wall Systems and Architectural Opening Solutions
Glass wall and door systems endow architectural concepts with transparent elegance. This course covers the benefits of interior glass wall and door systems and includes discussions on types of glass walls and operable systems; door types, rails, headers, hardware, and applications; glass types; and access control. It presents design and code considerations and specification of glass assemblies.
Identify the types of glass wall and operable wall systems and explain their use for space management, providing access/egress without sacrificing structural integrity.
Discuss how the systems improve occupant comfort through sound control, daylighting, airflow, and transparency.
Outline glass wall and door systems’ financial and environmental benefits related to energy consumption, spatial flexibility, reuse of materials, and system durability.
Specify glass assemblies that are ADA complaint and meet code requirements for glass type, bottom rails, door closers and hardware, and thresholds at doorways.
