Course Description: AEC Daily: Architectural Fencing & Gate Systems for Security, Privacy, & Visual Appeal
Gate and fencing systems can be both functional and decorative. This course illustrates how architectural gate and fencing systems can be designed to meet modern security and design requirements while harmonizing with their surrounding environment. Fencing and gate systems are discussed in terms of their composition, materials, coatings, finishes, and performance in interior and exterior applications.
Identify a wide range of exterior and interior applications of today’s fence and gate systems based on their functional, safety, and security requirements.
Discuss today’s fence and gate systems in terms of their composition, materials, coatings, and finishes to ensure the fence or gate system selected meets the safety and security requirements of the building project.
Classify gate track configurations, hardware, hinges, and locking mechanisms and the attributes of a variety of infill panel designs to determine how they contribute to specific visual criteria and security needs.
Assess factors such as safety, security, efficiency, aesthetics, and the surrounding environment to specify the most appropriate gate and/or fencing system for a specific application.
