AEC Daily is one of the largest providers of continuing education (CE) to the Construction, Architectural, Interior Design and Engineering communities.   • Course Description: AEC Daily: Urban Shade Solutions: Advancing Comfort, Health, and Climate Resilience

    This course explores the critical role of shade in urban design, public health, and climate resilience. It examines how natural, built, and combined shading systems reduce heat exposure, support thermal comfort, and enhance the usability of outdoor spaces. Through case studies, technical analysis, and planning frameworks, participants will learn how to evaluate shade needs, select appropriate solutions, and integrate shade into parks, plazas, transit stops, and other public environments.

    Identify the health, environmental, and social drivers for incorporating shade in urban and community spaces.

    Evaluate the functional, aesthetic, and ecological benefits of natural, built, and combined shade systems.

    Apply key planning and design considerations to select shade solutions appropriate for site conditions and user needs.

    Assess how shade contributes to climate resilience, public health, and the equitable use of outdoor environments.
