Course Description: AEC Daily: Water Management Solutions for Shower Installations
From fashion to function, the shower space of the bathroom is a focal point, offering a place of quiet respite for rejuvenation. Shower spaces should be built to last, using durable materials combined with sound installation practices in order to reduce life cycle and replacement costs. This course outlines the criteria used in designing water management systems for shower pans and walls and includes discussions on traditional and modern methods of waterproofing shower floors and walls, new methods of construction, and the innovative design options that are available for curbless shower pans.
List the various methods of building shower floors and walls and describe them in terms of their makeup, applications, durability, and limitations.
Describe the types of failures that can occur to affect the durability and life span of shower installations.
Explain the industry standards that have to be met and the resources available to ensure professional installations and sustainability.
Identify the need for proper water management (including the prevention of mold/mildew growth) in showers and describe new methods of construction for floor and shower pan construction.
