Ron Blank & Associates, Inc.

From our humble beginnings that were sketched out on Ron Blank's mother's kitchen table, a vision was conceptualized for connecting architects and building product manufacturers in a way that had not been done before. Since that moment, RBA has strategically evolved into a multi-platformed suite of services for building product manufacturers and design professionals that aim to connect, educate and energize the professional goals of those who engage them.

  • Course Description: Ron Blank & Associates: Advancing Security: Designing and Implementing Biometric Access Control Systems in the Built Environment

This course explores the shift from traditional credential-based access systems to advanced biometric technologies, highlighting how these innovations support occupant safety, security, hygiene, and accessibility in building design. Participants will gain insight into common vulnerabilities of legacy systems, learn how to integrate biometric solutions into new and existing structures, and understand how these systems enhance building performance, user experience, and sustainability. Through expert perspectives and real-world examples, design professionals will be equipped to make informed decisions in access control planning.

Identify and assess the health and safety limitations of traditional access control systems and explain how biometric solutions reduce risks such as unauthorized access, tailgating, and hygiene concerns in high-traffic areas.

Describe how biometric and multi-factor authentication technologies can be integrated into sensitive or high-security environments to enhance physical security and support operational continuity.

Evaluate design strategies for incorporating advanced access control systems that promote accessibility, user comfort, and compliance with building codes.

Plan for the seamless integration of biometric access control systems into both new construction and retrofit projects by identifying necessary infrastructure components and design considerations that support long-term adaptability and system upgrades.
