Course Description: IMPs, EPDs and HPDs: Sustainable Performance
The use of sustainable materials and products during building design will become the standard within the construction industry, and environmental product declarations (EPDs) and Health Product Declarations® (HPDs) help architects and owners make informed decisions for their projects. Insulated metal panels (IMPs)—a prime example of a sustainable product—are one of the most cost-effective solutions to reduce energy and greenhouse gases.
Restate the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) definition of sustainability and how EPDs and HPDs are being used to support sustainable design.
Discuss the air/water/vapor/thermal performance of IMPs and how they contribute to sustainable design.
Define EPDs and recall how they are created from life cycle analyses (LCAs).
Employ working knowledge of HPDs and how IMP manufacturers have contributed to their development.
Summarize how IMPs and associated EPDs and HPDs are used in environmental rating systems such as LEED®, Green Globes®, and Living Building Challenge (LBC).
