  • Course Description: AEC Daily: Specifying Glazing Systems for Performance & Sustainability

Architectural glazing systems are vital to building performance, influencing energy efficiency, structural integrity, and aesthetics. This course compares storefront and curtain wall systems, explores performance optimization strategies, and examines their contribution to sustainability. Participants will gain the technical knowledge needed to develop effective product specifications.

Evaluate how aesthetics, budget, performance, structural needs, and building codes, supported by standards like ASCE 7 for environmental loading influence the selection and specification of architectural glazing systems.

Discuss how curtain wall systems meet complex requirements, such as pressure-equalized designs that prevent water infiltration and shear blocks to ensure structural integrity.

Apply design strategies such as thermal breaks and high-performance glass to reduce energy use and improve thermal and visual comfort.

Identify how architectural glazing systems can contribute toward meeting LEED® v4.1 Building Design and Construction credit requirements.
