Course Description: AEC Daily: Enhancing the Built Environment with Architectural Metal Fabric
Architectural metal fabric is a dynamic interior and exterior material used to create beautiful and functional façades, balustrades, and screening for a wide variety of commercial and public structures. This course discusses applications for metal fabric and its performance benefits, including safety, security, solar management, and sustainability. It also discusses how coatings and graphics technologies can be incorporated into metal fabrics to enhance branding and visual identity.
Describe how architectural metal fabrics provide security, solar shading, fall protection, and natural ventilation in open air facilities such as stadiums and parking garages.
Describe how architectural metal fabrics comply with code requirements for stair guards and railings yet allow for creativity with transparency and complex/organic shapes.
Explain how architectural metal mesh can be applied to building facades for solar shading and optimize energy efficiency by blocking solar radiation in the summer and allowing heat gain in the winter.
Explain how to create branding and visual identity with metal fabrics, including etching, lighting, color, and transparent media façades.
