Course Description: AEC Daily: Architectural Finishes
Architectural finishes mimic the aesthetics and textures of natural materials without the cost, labor, weight, and maintenance challenges of finishes such as wood, stone, leather, and metals. This course discusses their performance characteristics, selection considerations, and proper installation techniques for interior and exterior commercial applications, including fire-rated assemblies and LEED®-certified projects.
Identify appropriate uses of architectural finishes, including healthcare projects with disinfection requirements in support of patient health and safety.
Define the performance characteristics, including fire resistance and conformance with low-VOC standards, that support good indoor air quality and occupant health.
Identify factors that contribute to installation failure.
Describe how architectural finishes support refurbishment of existing building elements and furniture, reducing demolition waste sent to landfill and contributing toward LEED v4.1 Materials and Resources credit requirements.
