Course Description: AEC Daily: Cable Tray: Types, Application, and Code
Expansion or modification of electrical cabling is rarely considered yet occurs during the lifetime of most buildings. Expansion of in-wall cabling requires additional work, trades, and possibly electrical service interruption, but cable tray facilitates removal and addition of cabling. This course reviews two types of cable tray—ladder tray and wire mesh tray—their components, characteristics, and applications and code-related installation information.
Recall the National Electrical Code® definition of cable tray and its benefits over conduit or closed cabling systems.
Describe the four types of ladder tray, including their installation specifications, load ratings, and material choices.
Contrast wire mesh cable tray with ladder tray in terms of types, materials, permitted cables, and installation requirements.
Recall code requirements for equipment grounding conductors, segregation of cables, and telecommunication cable requirements to ensure occupant and worker safety.
